Wolfgang Maibohm (born July 11, 1951 in Schwaan ) is a former volleyball player and coach from the GDR .

Maibohm played from 1966 for SC Traktor Schwerin , with whom he was GDR runner-up behind SC Leipzig five times from 1972 to 1976 . In 1977 the people of Schwerin ended the series of successes that had been going on since 1962 and won the championship title.

In 1968 Maibohm made his debut in the GDR junior national team with which he finished fifth at the European Junior Championships in 1969. From 1971 Maibohm was part of the GDR national team . At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , Wolfgang Maibohm and the even younger Wolfgang Löwe were only two players in the GDR selection who had not already become world champions in 1970. In the 1972 Olympic final, the GDR players lost to the Japanese team and received the silver medal.

Maibohm took fourth place at the 1974 World Cup and seventh place at the 1975 European Championship with the GDR selection in the 1970s . At the 1978 World Cup , the GDR selection no longer reached the quarter-finals and finished ninth at the end of the placement games.

Maibohm was a trained cable mechanic. After studying sports at DHfK , he was a trainer for SC Traktor Schwerin and later for Schweriner SC , which was relegated from the Bundesliga in 1994 .
