Wolfgang Marx (* 20th June 1943 in Weidenau ) is a German psychologist and emeritus professor at the University of Zurich .

After graduating from high school, Marx studied psychology at the Universities of Kiel and Munich . In 1972 he received his doctorate in Munich with a thesis on the computer simulation of language for Dr. phil. His habilitation thesis in 1978 was on verbal association behavior. In 1980 Marx was appointed professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. The topics of his teaching in Munich were the psychology of language and the history of classical learning theories . From 1994 until his retirement in 2008, Marx was a professor at the University of Zurich.

For his research focus on cognitive structures, especially in the area of ​​the representation of political realities, he mainly uses the statistical tools of non-metric multidimensional scaling . More recent research areas of Marx are the psychology of emotions , multimodal perception and special problems of perception, such as the recognition of faces.

Marx is married. His private interest is in literature; Marx has already published a number of articles in cultural journals, two novels, several short stories and a volume of essays.
