Wolfgang Mewes (born May 30, 1924 in Berlin ; † December 17, 2016 in Wiesbaden ) was a German business economist and author.

Life

Mewes was initially a cost calculator, accountant and auditor in an auditing company, head of accounting in a magazine group and since 1951 owner of a business training institute in Frankfurt am Main. He is the founder of the EKS strategy . In 1989 Mewes transferred the rights of use for the purposes of management consulting to Peat, Marwick, Mitchel auditing company, Frankfurt am Main (today part of KPMG ). In 1990 he sold his publishing house and the rights to use the EKS strategy to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , which in 1996 sold these rights to the Deutsche Weiterbildungsgesellschaft (DWG, Klett Group ). In 2008 the Malik Management Zentrum St. Gallen AG took over the entire plant usage rights of EKS.

Mewes was chairman of the finance and tax committee of the IHK Frankfurt am Main , member of the finance and tax committee of the German Industry and Trade Congress , Bonn and lecturer for corporate policy at the University of Würzburg . In 1970 he initiated the performance community (EKS) e. V. , today the Federal Association of Strategy Forum e. V. (BSF) (temporarily over 3000 members, today still 700). The BSF is the only network in Germany in which entrepreneurs, freelancers and executives are systematically and practically concerned with improving their entrepreneurial success through the use of strategic know-how according to Mewes.

In 1984 Mewes received the Medal of Merit of the Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce, in 1988 the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon and in 1989 the plaque of honor for special promotion of the Frankfurt economy from the Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce. In 2004 he was appointed honorary professor at the PEF Private University for Management in Vienna. In 2010 he received the Life Achievement Award for the continuing education industry.

On July 31, 2014, the non-profit foundation named after Wolfgang Mewes was recognized by the Thuringian Ministry of the Interior. The purpose of the Wolfgang Mewes Foundation is to ensure that the previously inadequate dissemination of the EKS methodology (method of the Bottleneck-Concentrated Strategy according to Wolfgang Mewes) receives support beyond the death of the donors, since the Bottleneck-Focused Strategy is essential Can provide impetus for a stronger diversification of the medium-sized economy and thus contribute to a sustainable consolidation of the business location of the Federal Republic of Germany in the sense of promoting the common good.
