Wolfgang Miersch

Wolfgang Miersch (born February 20, 1954 in Dresden ) is a former German racing cyclist .

Athletic career

Miersch started cycling with SG Dynamo Dresden-Nord , later switched to SC Dynamo Berlin . He had his first successes in 1972 when he won the silver medal in the team time trial at both the children's and youth spartakiad and the GDR championships in his age group .

In 1973 he drove his first tour of the GDR and finished the tour with the victory of Dieter Gonschorek in 9th place in the overall classification. He won the ranking for the best young driver. In 1974 he finished second behind Hans-Joachim Hartnick at the GDR road championships . In that year he also became a member of the national team and started in the Tour of Slovakia (34th place), as well as in the Tour of Yugoslavia (54th place).

His older brother Karl-Heinz Miersch was also a cyclist.
