Wolfgang Oelßner

Wolfgang Oelßner (born October 10, 1920 in Gröba ; † April 28, 1983 in Berlin ) was a German pharmacologist. He was rector of the "Carl Gustav Carus" Medical Academy in Dresden.

Life

Oelßner, the son of a teacher, first attended the St. Augustin high school in Grimma, where he passed the Abitur in 1939. After his labor service, he began studying medicine at the University of Leipzig , but had to sit out on October 1, 1940 due to being called up for military service. He then studied at the University of Hamburg until 1946 , where he initially became an emergency doctor after receiving his doctorate in 1947. In the same year he moved to Leipzig, where he became an assistant, later senior assistant at the University's Pharmacological Institute. On September 1st he received a lectureship there. In 1953 he qualified as a professor for pharmacology in Leipzig . In 1955 he was appointed professor and director of the Pharmacological Institute. In 1958 he moved to Dresden, where he received a full professorship at the Medical Academy "Carl Gustav Carus" . He was also rector from 1960 to 1964 and vice-rector from 1969 to 1974. In 1974 he moved again, now to the Humboldt University in Berlin , where he became professor and director of the Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology.

From 1975 to 1978 Oelßner was also chairman of the working group of pharmacologists in industry and the universities of the German Democratic Republic .
