Wolfgang Popp (* 1970 in Vienna ) is an Austrian writer and journalist .

Life

Popp completed a degree in history and sinology in Vienna and at the Sichuan University in southwest China . He has led study tours in the Far East and published documentaries .

He has been a freelance radio and TV editor since 2005, and culture editor at Ö1 , a radio program of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) , since 2008 . His short stories have appeared in the literary magazine kolik , among others . His debut novel I must lie was published in 2013. His novel Die Verschwundenen was published in 2015 and received very positive reviews. In five episodes, the author shows different ways of disappearing and re-encountering. The book was on the shortlist of the Alpha Literature Prize and was awarded a book prize by the City of Vienna.

In January 2016, Wolfgang Popp's third novel, Desert World , was published, which ties in with the topic of “Disappearance”. A musician travels through the Moroccan desert after his brother, with whom he has not had any contact for several years. He has staged an adventurous scavenger hunt and always seems to be one step ahead of the narrator.

His novel The Clueless was on the shortlist of the European Union Literature Prize.
