Nothing is known about Wolfgang Roritzer's apprenticeship and traveling years. Before he worked in Regensburg, he worked at the Liebfrauenmünster in Ingolstadt , because that's where his stonemason is .
In 1493 he built the tabernacle at Regensburg Cathedral and in 1495 he acquired citizenship in Regensburg. In that year he was foreman at Regensburg Cathedral. In 1500, Wolfgang Roritzer created the “beautiful fountain” at the south portal of Regensburg Cathedral and was busy building the third floor of the north tower from 1496 onwards, which he completed in 1501. His sculptural skills are documented with the figures he designed on the north tower.

Life

From 1498 he was involved in the foundation of the St. Anna Brotherhood, in which he was elected brotherhood master in 1499. In 1508 he joined the St. Wolfgang Brotherhood at St. Emmeran.

As a master builder of the cathedral, he was drawn into the prevailing social disputes and unrest at the time. At that time, the city had largely freed itself from ecclesiastical and ducal rule. Duke Albrecht IV of Bavaria used unclear urban conditions in his favor in 1486 and brought the city under his sovereignty. Emperor Friedrich III. forced the city to be surrendered in 1492 and appointed an imperial governor. When he died, a new one was to be installed in 1513. Unrest broke out in the city, during which a councilor, Wolfgang Lyskircher , was executed for trifles. When calm returned, attempts were made to take action against the troublemakers. Among the ringleaders was Wolfgang Roritzer, who had escaped from the city. He had received an imperial letter of safe conduct assuring that he could stay in the city until the imperial commission arrived. When this arrived, he placed himself under the protection of the bishop and agitated at night in the interests of the citizenry. The imperial commissioners then asked the bishop to hand over Roritzer, which he refused. He was arrested by the imperial in the cathedral building , convicted of high treason and beheaded on May 30, 1514.

His tombstone was in the shape of a simple tombstone with a coat of arms and his stonemason's mark. This was no longer preserved in 1888.

His wife seems to have died before him. He had a son named Dionysius. In 1524, the guardians of Wolfgang Roritzer's children sold his house on Malerstrasse in Regensburg.
