Wolfgang Ruppert

Wolfgang Ruppert (* 1946 in Hof (Saale) ) is a German cultural historian . Since 1988 he has been professor of cultural and political history at the Berlin University of the Arts .

Life

Ruppert studied history, German , sociology , political science and art history in Munich . From 1978 to 1981 he conceived and developed the museum project “Industrial Culture in Nuremberg ”. From 1981 to 1983 he worked as a freelance writer and filmmaker for television, on book projects and on a report for the Berlin Senator for Science and Research . From 1983 to 1988 he taught cultural history in the history studies course at Bielefeld University. From 2003 to 2005 he was managing director of the Institute for Theory and Practice of Communication at the Berlin University of the Arts. In 2005 he was included by the German Bundestag's Enquete Commission on Culture in Germany as an expert on questions relating to the modern artist in the final report of the German Bundestag's Enquete Commission , 2008.

His work focuses on the subject areas of the history of the modern artist, the history of things, the history of design and political culture in Germany. In the 1980s he dealt with industrial culture, the history of work and industrialization in Germany, the history of photography, the history of workers and the history of German social democracy. Since 1999 he has also been dealing with the interrelationship between cultural and political history .
