Wolfgang Schuh

Wolfgang Schuh (born November 26, 1943 in Prague ) is a former German football player who was active in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of GDR football . After his doctorate as Dr. med. he became active as a sports doctor and orthopedist.

Professional development

From 1963 to 1966, Wolfgang Schuh studied medicine in Jena and Erfurt . He then specialized in sports medicine and orthopedics. From the 1970s to the 1990s, he was, among other things, team doctor for FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt . After the political change in 1990 , he opened an orthopedic and sports medicine-oriented group practice as a specialist with partners in Erfurt. He was also the team doctor for the Thuringian handball club .

Athletic career

After completing his medical studies, Schuh began playing football in the national game operation at FC Carl Zeiss Jena . For the league team of the regional soccer focus, he played his first nine games in the second half of the 1966/67 season, in which he was always used as a defender. After the 2nd team of the FCC was promoted to the second-rate GDR league in 1967 , Schuh was transferred to their squad. He was used in 28 of the 30 league games in 1967/68, where he scored his only goal in the higher-class league game operation on the last match day in the encounter between FCC II - Motor Eisenach (2-1).

For the 1968/69 season Wolfgang Schuh moved to the upper division FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt. There he was nominated for the league squad and was used as a defender in 19 league games from matchday 4. He also played nine point games for the GDR league team FC Rot-Weiß II, which, however, was relegated at the end of the season. In the season 1969/70 his league appearances only began on the 9th matchday, this time he only played 14 point games with the 1st team. In the summer of 1970, Wolfgang Schuh interrupted competitive sports and joined the third-class district league team of the company sports community (BSG) Aufbau Erfurt for two seasons . When the 2nd team of FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt returned to the GDR league for the 1972/73 season, Wolfgang Schuh also returned to FC Rot-Weiß. For the 2nd FCC team he went on for two more seasons, came in 1972/73 in 22 league games on 21 missions, while in 1973/74 he only played three point games for Red-White II in the second half of the season. After that, Wolfgang Schuh ended his career as a football player in the higher leagues.
