Wolfgang Schwark

Wolfgang Schwark (* 1942 in Kiel ) is a German teacher and university professor .

Life

Schwark studied at the Dortmund University of Education and then started teaching in North Rhine-Westphalia . From 1965 to 1969 he studied education, journalism and social psychology at the Ruhr University in Bochum , parallel to his school service . His doctorate as Dr. phil. took place in 1972 with the dissertation The professional role of the elementary school teacher in the mirror of his association magazines, illustrated using the example of "Catholic women education", the "Catholic educator" and the "Allgemeine Deutsche Lehrerzeitung" (1950-1970) .

After completing his doctorate, Schwark initially worked as a research assistant at the Ruhr University of Education before being appointed lecturer in 1974 and professor for school education at the Freiburg University of Education in 1977. From 1982 to 1990 and again from 1998 to 2008 he held the post of rector at the university. From 1998 to 2008 he was also chairman of the state rectors' conference of the universities of teacher education in Baden-Württemberg .

Schwark's voluntary commitment extends to activities in the state school advisory board, the Freiburg student union, in the society of Christian-Jewish cooperation , in the education and science union , as well as in the education council of the state of Baden-Württemberg and in the broadcasting council of Südwestrundfunk .

In 2009 Schwark was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class for his services , and in 2013 the Heidelberg University of Education awarded him the title of Honorary Senator .
