Wolfgang Tomböck

Wolfgang Tomböck (born September 28, 1957 ) is an Austrian horn player .

Life

The son of a pianist and horn player and member of the Vienna Philharmonic, Wolfgang Tomböck senior studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Josef Veleba .

In 1978 he became a member of the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera and in 1980 he was appointed principal horn of the Vienna Philharmonic. Tomböck has worked with renowned conductors, such as Herbert von Karajan , Karl Böhm and Leonard Bernstein , Claudio Abbado , Lorin Maazel , Zubin Mehta , Riccardo Muti , Nikolaus Harnoncourt , Seiji Ozawa and James Levine .

He gives concerts all over the world with the Vienna Philharmonic and is a guest at the Salzburg Festival every year . He is also a passionate chamber musician and performs regularly with the Vienna Wind Octet and Ensemble Vienna Horns, which was founded in 2002.

Wolfgang Tomböck is a virtuoso on the Vienna Horn in F. This instrument shapes the special sound of the Vienna Philharmonic.
