The Heide and Wolfgang Voelter Collection was bequeathed in 2011 by Heide Voelter and her husband Wolfgang Voelter to the Graphic Collection at the Art History Institute of the University of Tübingen.

The private collection includes around 150 prints from the 20th century, mainly with figurative representations from the 1970s and 1980s. The original focus was on German Expressionism with works by Max Beckmann , Erich Heckel and Max Pechstein . Further works are by A. Paul Weber , Peter Nagel , Lambert Maria Wintersberger , Rudolf Hausner and Horst Janssen . A series of graphics by Friedrich Meckseper on the subject of Nobel Prizes in Chemistry, Physics, Literature, Medicine, Economics and Peace is a highlight in the university environment. The internationally active collectors, who temporarily lived in Pakistan and the United States , also acquired two Japanese ones Woodcuts by the master Utagawa Toyokuni from the 19th century as well as three pre-Columbian figurines from western Mexico before the colonization by the Spaniards.

Benefactor

Heide Voelter is a veterinarian and has been the editor of the journal for nature research for many years . She met her future husband on the Orient Express on the way to Istanbul when he traveled to Israel, where, to the best of his knowledge, he was the first German exchange student. During his travels he developed his enthusiasm for art.

Wolfgang Voelter is a biochemist and professor emeritus at the University of Tübingen , who mainly dealt with the chemistry of natural products and their processing into medicinal products. In 1976, he set up one of the world's leading research institutes for natural product chemistry in Pakistan. In 1997 he received the Federal Cross of Merit for his life's work .

Almost forty selected works from the Heide and Wolfgang Voelter collection were exhibited in the Museum of the University of Tübingen (MUT) in Hohentübingen Castle until February 15, 2015.
