General election in Greece 1935

On June 9, 1935 found in Greece parliamentary elections take place. An electoral alliance made up of two parties - the People's Party and the National Radical Party - received 287 of the 300 seats in parliament.

The People's Party (Λαϊκὸν Κόμμα, Laïkòn Kómma; it existed from 1920 to 1958) was a conservative and monarchist party; the National Radical Party (Εθνικό Ριζοσπαστικό Κόμμα; Ethnikó Rhizosmatikó Kómma) was also a monarchist party under the leadership of Georgios Kondylis .

The elections took place in a climate of tension between the Venetian Liberal Republicans and the People's Party. Eleftherios Venizelos , who had been in government until the parliamentary elections on March 5, 1933, had left Greece on March 11, 1935 after an attempted coup by the Venizelist general Nikolaos Plastiras on March 1, 1935.

In protest against the execution of two prominent Venetian generals, against the continued activity of special courts and against a new electoral law that they had not approved, all Venizelist parties decided not to take part in the election.

As a result, the People's Party and the National Radical Party were able to amend the republican constitution of 1924 to their liking and decide to restore the monarchy. King George II , who left Greece in December 1923, returned to the throne on November 3, 1935.
