The 1964 general election in Greece took place on February 16, 1964. It was won by Georgios Papandreou and his center-left Enosis Kendrou (EK; Center Union) with an absolute majority of 52.71%.

The party received 171 and 173 of the 300 seats to be allocated in the Greek parliament and thus also had an absolute majority of the parliamentary seats (151 seats). After the parliamentary elections, Georgios Papandreou formed a government with him as prime minister at the helm from February 18, 1964 after the corresponding order was placed by the Greek King Paul .

The parliamentary election took place after the slightly increased proportional representation . Here, the strongest party in terms of share of votes received more seats in parliament than it would get through the share of votes. The elections were conducted under compulsory voting. Men and women over the age of 18 were eligible to vote for the right to vote. 909 candidates stood for election in 55 constituencies (eklogikes periferies). The legislative basis for the elections was Acts 4173/1961 of 1961 (passed under the Karamanlis government) and 4322/1963 published in the Efimeris tis Kyverniseos (ΦΕΚ, Government Gazette ) No. 104 of September 11, 1963.

The political crisis Apostasia tou 1965 leads to the split off (Apostasia) of Conservative MPs from the Center Union at the instigation of the Greek King Constantine II and the right-wing opposition party Ethniki Rizospastiki Enosis (ERE, National Radical Union ) under Panagiotis Kanellopoulos as well as irreconcilable differences between Prime Minister Georgios Papandreou on the one hand and the king on the occupation of the post of defense minister, on the other hand, on the resignation of Prime Minister Papandreou on July 15, 1965. A short time later, Georgios Athanasiadis-Novas , a member of the split-off group of the Center Union (Apostates), was appointed Prime Minister by the King. The formation of a government from the group of apostates and the conservative ERE. fails with a lost vote of confidence in the Greek parliament in August 1965.

The parliamentary elections in 1964 were the last parliamentary elections before the beginning of the Greek military dictatorship on April 21, 1967. The next parliamentary election took place after the overthrow of the military dictatorship on November 17, 1974, after more than 10 years.
