Markus Türk (born January 4, 1962 in Krefeld ) is a German musician.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1981 at Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium Viersen-Dülken , he studied music and German for teaching at the University of Duisburg .

From 1983 he became a member of the Düsseldorf band Family 5 and toured with them through Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. He toured Poland with the Gocher band Raufaser .

In 1987 he began studying music at the conservatory in Arnhem / Netherlands , which he completed in 1992 with a diploma as a lecturer in improvised music and jazz . In 1989 he founded the Markus Türk Quintet . Since 1990 he has led the Kempen Big Band and since the same year has also taught as a jazz lecturer at the Mönchengladbach City Music School.

From 1992 she performed at international jazz festivals in Viersen and Leeuwarden / Netherlands, among others . Türk was also the winner of the first German jazz festival in Leipzig. In the same year he founded the world music duo Strange Fruit with the tabla player Raimund Engelhardt . In 1993 he joined the salsa band Salsa Picante as a lead trumpeter and performed numerous concerts with Charlie Mariano , Helge Schneider , Gerd Dudek , Rob van den Broeck , Reiner Winterschladen , Gunter Hampel , Frank Köllges , Andy Lumpp , Ali Haurand , Sven Regener , Andi Thoma , The Tiger Lillies and other artists.

In 1994, Türk co-founded the Halle Luja eV cultural association in Grefrath and was its first chairman until 1999. In 1997 he toured Austria and Switzerland with the formation Jansen in the opening act for the band Element of Crime and played the trumpet in the marching band The Warner Brothers in Warner Bros. Movie World . Since 1998 he took part in recordings and performances of the project Belgium by Georg Sehrbrock with.

From 2000 to 2001 he was a trumpeter in the band of Marla Glen , performing in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. In 2002 he took part in the Viersen Jazz Festival and worked on TV productions for 3sat and WDR . In 2003 he founded the Latin formation Los campesinos furiosos with the Venezuelan singer Yma America . In the same year, the Duo Furiosef, founded by Türk in 1999 with the pianist Manfred Heinen, was nominated for the German Folk Prize. Also in 2003 Furiosef is a quintet Furiopolis extended (with Manfred Heinen, Achim Fink , Dietmar Fuhr and Frank Köllges ). The first live performance will take place at the Viersen Jazz Festival.

In 2005 he took part in the Ensemblia International Music Festival in Mönchengladbach. In the same year a collaboration with the pianist Joachim Kühn follows . Together with Manfred Heinen and Ramesh Shotham , Türk took part in the 2006 Jazz Festival in the church in Mönchengladbach. He is also invited to the "Madajazzcar" festival in Madagascar from October 1st to 14th. In 2007 several joint concerts with the Malagasy pianist Ghomi Rahamefy followed. With Furiopolis he takes part in the OffsideOpen Festival.

Since 2015 Markus Türk has led the Junior Jazz Workshop in Viersen together with Ali Haurand and introduced children and young people to free improvisation.
