The 1981 parliamentary elections in Greece took place on October 18, 1981. It was the third free parliamentary elections after the end of the Greek military dictatorship from 1967 to 1974. At the same time, the first European elections were held in Greece .
They resulted in a defeat for the Conservatives in office for seven years and a victory for the Social Democrats under Andreas Papandreou with an absolute majority. The communists were able to enter parliament as the third party. The center union plummeted from 12% (1977) to 0.4%.
