Wolfram Hubertus Kudla (born June 23, 1959 in Munich ) is a German civil engineer and university professor. He holds the professorship for earthworks and special civil engineering at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg and deals, among other things, with the final disposal of highly radioactive waste.

Life

Wolfram Kudla passed his Abitur in 1978 in Munich. This was followed by two years of military service in Mittenwald . From 1980 to 1986 he studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Munich . From 1986 he worked as a research assistant at the chair and testing office for soil mechanics and rock mechanics at the Technical University of Munich . He received his doctorate in 1990 under Rudolf Floss with the dissertation “Contribution to statistical quality control in earthworks”. From 1990 to 2000 Wolfram Kudla was project manager and managing director at various engineering companies. In 2000 he was appointed professor for "Earthworks and Special Foundation Engineering" at the Institute for Mining and Special Foundation Engineering at the Technical University of Freiberg.

Wolfram Kudla's research focus is on geotechnical issues related to the legacies of the energy industry. He deals with soil liquefaction from dumps in the Lusatian lignite mining area and with the sealing of repository mines for (highly) radioactive waste.

From 2014 to 2016, Kudla was a member of the High Radioactive Waste Storage Commission , which was set up by the Bundestag and Bundesrat to revise the Site Selection Act . He is a member of the "Radioactive Waste Disposal " committee of the Disposal Commission (ESK), the German Geotechnical Society (DGGT), the Freiberg Geocompetence Center (GKZ Freiberg), the Road and Transport Research Association (FGSV), the Ring of German Mining Engineers (RDB) ) and the German Working Group on Repository Research (DAEF).
