The Wolfsschlucht is a short valley in the Mangfall Mountains south of Wildbad Kreuth on the edge of the Blauberge in Upper Bavaria .

location

The Wolfsschlucht is a two-kilometer long valley that runs downhill from the southwest to the northeast. In the southwest, it is steeply closed by the saddle between the Schildenstein in the west and the Blauberg massif in the east. The flanks of these mountain stocks are drained by the Felsweißach, which flows northeast in the Wolfsschlucht and then flows into the Hofbauernweißach . In the middle and upper (southwest) part, the Wolfsschlucht is a valley that narrows towards the southwestern end. Only in the lower (northeast) part is it a heavily indented gorge in the true sense of the word. At the northeast exit of the notched gorge - southeast of Siebenhütten - the Felsweißach flows into the Hofbauerweißach. The Wolfsschlucht ends there.

The southern end of the valley of the Wolfsschlucht is at approx. 1010  m , the northeast exit at approx. 880  m .

Development

A hiking trail runs through the Wolfsschlucht. It leads from Wildbad Kreuth or from a parking lot 1 km west of it via Siebenhütten, first west past the Wolfsschlucht and then into it to its upper end. From there it winds as a demanding mountain climb that absolutely requires a head for heights and surefootedness, in steep bends and with short rope-secured sections up the mountain flank to the Blaubergsattel. From there you can hike west to Schildenstein and the Königsalm and east towards Blauberge and Halserspitze .

Due to its proximity to the water, the varied surroundings and the small height differences, the path to the foot of the ascent is suitable for children. The mountaineering path to the Schildensteinsattel and the Königsalm is only recommended for experienced hikers, as it contains slippery passages. Surefootedness is required, as the trail leads through crash areas and is not recommended in rain or snow.

Small wolf canyon

Near the southwestern end of the Wolfsschlucht valley, the Kleine Wolfsschlucht branches off to the southeast, which is steeply closed after a few hundred meters. It is accessible via a branch path. At its end there is a waterfall with a height of about 40 meters.

To distinguish it from the Kleiner Wolfsschlucht , the main valley is sometimes also called the Große Wolfsschlucht .

natural reserve

As part of the Mangfall Mountains, the Wolfsschlucht is an FFH area .

As part of the Weißach Valley, the Wolfsschlucht is also a protected landscape area .

Trivia

Some scenes of the eponymous Alpine crime novel by Andreas Föhr are set in the Wolfsschlucht near Kreuth.
