Volodymyr Drosd

Volodymyr Hryhorowytsch Drosd ( Ukrainian Володимир Григорович Дрозд ; born August 25, 1939 in Petrushyn , Chernihiv Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ; † October 23, 2003 in Kiev , Ukraine ) was a Ukrainian writer and journalist.

Life

Volodymyr Drosd took up the job of a journalist for a local newspaper after leaving school. In 1963 he published his first book of short stories I Like Blue Stars ( Люблю сині зорі ), after which he was accepted into the Writers ' Union of Ukraine . From 1963 to 1966 he served as a conscript in the Soviet Army and then studied until 1968 at the Institute of Journalism at the Taras Shevchenko University in Kiev . Following his studies, he worked as a journalist for various newspapers and continued to work as a writer. Between 1982 and 1985 he was the first editor-in-chief of Kiev magazine . From 1992 on, Drosd headed the Literature Fund of Ukraine and was vice-chairman of the National Association of Writers of Ukraine .

Drosd was married to the Ukrainian poet and Taras Shevchenko Prize winner from 1996 Iryna Schylenko (1941-2013). His hobbies were gardening and chess. He died in Kiev in 2003, where he was buried in the Baikowe Cemetery .
