Volodymyr Jurijowytsch Jeltschenko ( Ukrainian Володимир Юрійович Єльченко ; born June 27, 1959 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian diplomat . Since December 9th, 2015 he has been Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations .

biography

Volodymyr Yeltschenko is the son of Yury Yeltschenko , Minister of Culture of the Ukrainian SSR 1971–1973. He studied at the Faculty of International Relations and International Law of the Taras Shevchenko National University in Kiev and has worked in the diplomatic service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine since 1981. From 1997 to 2000 he was Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations and from 2005 to 2006 Ukrainian Ambassador to Austria . From July 2, 2010, Yeltschenko was Ukraine's accredited ambassador to Russia by decree of the Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych , succeeding Kostyantyn Hryschtschenko . He held the post until December 9, 2015, when he was appointed Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations.
