Robert Wood "Woody" Johnson IV (born April 12, 1947 in New Brunswick , New Jersey ) is an American entrepreneur and owner of the NFL team New York Jets . His net worth is estimated at $ 6.3 billion (as of March 2016). On January 19, 2017, US President Donald Trump nominated him to succeed Matthew Barzun as US Ambassador to the United Kingdom and he has been accredited as Ambassador to the United Kingdom since August 29, 2017 .

Life

Johnson was born the great-grandson of Robert Wood Johnson I , one of the founders of Johnson & Johnson . He then studied at the University of Arizona , where he broke his back after urinating from a bridge while drunk and falling off the bridge. He was then paralyzed at times and received medical treatment for several months. He never had any ambitions to join the family business. Upon graduation, he invested in the cable television industry and real estate in Florida, where he grew up before moving to New York in 1984. It was there that he began making investments for family members. In 2000, he earned US $ 635 million for the NFL - Franchise New York Jets after the longtime previous owner Leon Hess had died.

Private life

Johnson was married twice. His first marriage to a model in 1979, he had three daughters, one of whom died of ketoacidosis in 2010 . In 2001 the first marriage ended in divorce. In 2009 he married a former actress with whom he had already had two sons. He is a supporter of the Republican Party and one of its largest donors. After being a supporter of Jeb Bush when a presidential candidate was found in the primaries in 2015 , he later also supported the Republican candidate Donald Trump . Previously, he also supported George W. Bush , John McCain, and Mitt Romney .
