Works Volume I is a double album released in 1977 by British progressive rock band Emerson, Lake and Palmer . Each of the three band members published their own pieces on one side of the two records. On the fourth page there are common songs.
content
The album was released four years after the last, very successful studio album Brain Salad Surgery and is stylistically different from its predecessor. On page 1 is a piano concerto written by Keith Emerson and recorded with the London Philharmonic Orchestra . Greg Lake's page two contains acoustic ballads, most of which he co-wrote with Peter Sinfield . The Carl Palmer's page contains a version of the song Tank from the first album . On the fourth page the band presents the two long songs Pirates and a new version of Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man .

reception
The Bruce Eders retrospective from the music portal AllMusic was mixed. He particularly criticizes Keith Emerson's solo pieces “ Piano Concerto as on the level of a good music student, without much originality”, and the piece “ C'est la Vie ” presented by Greg Lake says little, which is not better and shorter on their previous album was expressed ". Eder praised page 3 of Carl Palmer and page 4 of the group, but concluded that the group songs "cover a lot of old terrain, albeit in an artful and stylish way". The reviewers of the Babyblauen Seiten rate the album very differently, but it only achieved eight out of 15 points in total.
