The Association for Lawn Games Wormatia 08 Worms , or Wormatia Worms for short , is a football club from Worms in Rhineland-Palatinate . For the first time, the club had a women's football department between 1971 and 1991. In 2006 the women's department of Wormatia Worms was re-established.
In 2018, the first team was promoted to the third-class Regionalliga Südwest . The second team plays in the Landesliga Rheinhessen. Since the 2015/16 season there has also been a B, C and D junior team, some of which have been taken over by SV Leiselheim .
history
2006–2017: Beginnings in lower-class football
After the women's department was re-established for the 2006/07 season and started in the district league, the team made it to the association league in the 2008/09 season without losing points. In the very first season in the Association League, the team from Worms took third place and played for promotion to the Regionalliga Südwest .
Also in the following seasons, Wormatia fought for promotion to the regional league and in the 2012/13 season they just missed the championship title and thus promotion behind Schott Mainz . In the 2015/16 season they finished tied with FC Speyer 09 at the end of the season in first place and a decider had to decide on promotion to the regional league. In this, Wormatia lost 3-1 to Speyer and missed promotion.
2017–2018: Promotion to the regional league
After the promotion was missed again in the 2016/17 season, the team from Worm made the longed-for promotion to the regional league in the 2017/18 season . With a two-point lead and a goal difference of +103, the team became champions ahead of FFV Fortuna Göcklingen . After just one season, the Worms went straight down again.
