The Wortmann AG is a German computer manufacturer based in Schnathorst , a district of eastern Westphalia community Hüllhorst in North Rhine-Westphalia . The company manufactures business PCs and servers . It also sells computer monitors , PCs , servers, notebooks , tablet PCs and UTM systems from Securepoint through specialist dealers. The products are sold under the Terra brand . The company, which is not listed on the stock exchange, has a share capital of EUR 3 million.

Data center

In 2012, Wortmann AG built a data center on an area of ​​2500 square meters to also serve the cloud computing business. The 15 million euro project was called Terra Channel Cloud when it was launched , is now called Terra Cloud and was built directly at the headquarters. The data center offers space for 550 cabinets with 26,000 servers. The Terra Cloud consists of four areas and can be expanded with additional services if required: Housing , Hosting , IaaS and SaaS .

history

The company was founded in 1986 by Siegbert Wortmann as Wortmann Terra Impex Computer and Data Processing GmbH . In 1996 the company achieved sales of 100 million euros for the first time. In 1998 the GmbH was converted into an AG. The stock corporation is not listed and has interests in around twenty other companies, some of them majority. According to the company, around 15% of its own products are now exported.

Wortmann is now the largest independent computer manufacturer in Europe after Maxdata AG had to file for bankruptcy in 2008, Siemens left the Fujitsu Siemens Computers joint venture and Medion was bought by Chinese competitor Lenovo in mid-2011 .

At the beginning of 2012, Wortmann announced that it wanted to build a new production facility near Leipzig. As early as 2009, new production facilities at the main location in Hüllhorst were inaugurated by the then Federal Minister of Economics, Karl Theodor zu Guttenberg .

Up to 64 trainees are trained in six professions in the company, which corresponds to a training quota of 20%.

In March 2013 it became known that Wortmann will take over the insolvent b.com Computer AG , the AG was transferred to b.com GmbH, which was taken over by Wortmann AG as a new investor. b.com should be retained as an independent company with the majority of the 115 jobs and the sales branches.

In July 2013 Wortmann took over 49% of Kosatec Computer GmbH . In the meantime, the day-to-day business of b.com GmbH has grown into Kosatec Computer GmbH, b.com customers have been able to switch to Kosatec, the b.com website only leads directly to Kosatec Computer GmbH.

Wortmann AG was able to report sales of almost € 900 million for 2019.
