Wreecher lake

The Wreecher See is a bay southwest of the town of Putbus on the Baltic Sea island of Rügen .

The bay is named after the village of Wreechen on the east bank . The settlements Glowitz and Neukamp are on the south side .

The body of water, designated as a nature reserve , has an area of ​​77 hectares and is part of the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve .

Within the reserve it belongs to protection zone II ( maintenance zone ). The Wreecher See is a tributary of the eastern Rügischer Bodden into which the lake merges. A wide belt of reeds and reed beds surrounds the lake, which is used as a breeding and resting area for many bird species and also as a wintering area every year.

To the north of the lake is a drainage area with reed meadows .
