Wu Zhengyi

Wu Zhengyi ( Chinese  吳徵 鎰  /  吴征 镒 , Pinyin Wú Zhēngyì , W.-G. Wu Cheng-i ; born June 13, 1916 in Jiujiang ; † June 20, 2013 in Kunming ; published under the name Cheng Yih Wu ) was a Chinese Botanist . He was considered the leading taxonomic expert on the flora of China and was the chief editor of the multi-volume Flora of China . Its botanical author abbreviation is " CYWu ".

Career

Wu Zhengyi obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Tsinghua University in 1937 and then graduated in Beijing under the supervision of Professors CY Chang and WC Wu . He was appointed assistant director of the Beijing Institute of Botany in 1950; in 1955 he became an elected member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). From 1958 he was director of the Botanical Institute Kunming of the CAS for more than 30 years.

His work as a writer and editor included the multi-volume works Flora Reipublicae Popularis Sinicae , Flora Xizangica and Flora of China .
