The Wuliuum is the lowest of the three stages of the Miaolingium , the third series of the Cambrian . It corresponds to the period from 509 to 504.5 million years ago. It follows the informal 4th stage of the Cambrian and precedes the drumium .

Naming and history

The stage is named after Mount Wuliu in the Miaoling Mountains in southern China's Guizhou Province , where its GSSP (see below) is located. It was formally defined in 2018.

Definition and GSSP

The lower limit of the level is defined by the first appearance of the trilobite species Oryctocephalus indicus . As GSSP one near the village Balang in the circuit serves Jianhe in the province of Guizhou , China , open-minded layer sequence ( "Wuliu-Zengjiayan profile") of the Kaili Formation . The boundary to the drumium is indicated by the first appearance of the agnostoid trilobite species Ptychagnostus atavus .
