Barrage of the Wupper pre-lock

The Wupper pre-dam is a pre-dam of the Wuppertal dam . It was built around 10 years before the Wuppertal Dam north of Hückeswagen ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). Construction began on November 5, 1974 and commissioned on November 11, 1976. The dammed body of water is the Wupper ; the reservoir is used for local recreation.

Building

The barrier structure is a gravity dam with a fixed overflow weir.

The weir has 10 fields with a total opening width of 93 m. With eight fields, the overflow height is 251.30 m above sea level. NN and two fields at 251.20 m above sea level. NN for the low water. When the Wuppertalsperre, which has now been built, is fully dammed, the overflow of the pre-dam is dammed and only the bridge is visible.

The operator of the facility is the Wupperverband .

This pre- dam is listed in the ICOLD list as one of the "large dams " in Germany.
