The Wuppertal Hbf bus station is the central hub of the Wuppertal bus network. It represents an efficient and convenient link between the main station and the Elberfeld pedestrian zone with the Wuppertal city bus, CityExpress and SchnellBus lines. The main operator is the Wuppertaler Stadtwerke (WSW).
In the course of the redesign of the Döppersberg , the old bus station on the B7 was closed in July 2014. After four years with several replacement stops, the new bus station opened directly at the train station at the end of November 2018.
history
Bus station on the B7 (1955-2014)
The Döppersberg has been in an important position in terms of traffic since the middle of the 18th century. When car traffic increased after the Second World War, the conversion of the Döppersberg into a car-friendly traffic intersection began in 1955. In the course of this renovation, a tram and bus station was also built around and on the B7 . With the discontinuation of the Wuppertal tram , the public transport hub at Döppersberg became a pure bus station.
Due to the increase in local and private transport, initial plans were made for a renewed conversion of the Döppersberg from the end of the 1990s. These were intensified in the following years and finally decided by the city council in 2008.
Renovation (2014-2018)
In July 2014, the B7 in the Döppersberg area was closed and the bus station was closed. For the years of the renovation, the bus station was divided into four stops: Ohligsmühle (Hbf) , Brausenwerth (Hbf) , Wall / Museum (Hbf) and Historische Stadthalle (Hbf) . Until May 2017, almost all the bus routes that ran through the old bus station served the Ohligsmühle (Hbf) stop . Furthermore, the wall was accessible for buses in both directions in order to ensure a connection in the direction of Ronsdorf and Cronenberg. At the end of May 2017, the last stage of relocating the bus station was completed. The central bus station "Ohligsmühle (Hbf)" was closed and the wall, as before the start of construction, was once again single-lane. The buses going south now departed from the “Morianstraße (Hbf)” stop.
New bus station directly at the main train station (from 2018)
According to the planning of the Schüßler-Plan Ingenieurgesellschaft, Düsseldorf , a strict separation of local and individual traffic was implemented. The new bus station was built in the immediate vicinity of the main train station , which made it easier and faster to change between long-distance, regional and S-Bahn traffic as well as local public transport. Furthermore , a bus parking lot was built south of the site behind the building of the Wuppertal Institute .
Bus platforms
The new bus station consists of five bus platforms that are oriented towards each other . Thus, buses with the same or a similar route depart from the same bus platform, e.g. B. all buses in the west direction from bus platform 5. The NachtExpress lines deviate from this division , they all run from bus tiers 3–5. In addition, two stops for the suspension railway express , which runs in the event of a suspension railway failure, will be set up directly on the B7 .
