www.betreuteLoecher.de is an ironic short film by Helmut Schulzeck and Maria Debora Wolf, which tells of a hole researcher who has lost her passion for “holes to be looked after”. Three examples of her hole finds in Kiel, Berlin and in the North Sea Watt are presented by her in this supposed documentation.

It is one of the few known mockumentaries from the German-speaking area.

Readings

  • The film can be interpreted as a satire on the scientific community (which the Cinarchea 2004 jury also did: "You can best understand our first prize winner as an empirical micro-art fireworks of irony and scientific expertise."; From the reason for the award of the prize for the best archaeological short film): The protagonist apparently approaches her objects of investigation, the "holes to be looked after", in a strictly scientific manner, albeit for personal reasons. She uses a pseudo-scientific vocabulary and uses definitions to explain her “research area”. But that's not all: it also formulates demands to the public.
  • In spite of the absurdity of what is shown, viewers can be tempted to regard this fake or mockumentary as a credible, comment-free and therefore critical documentary about a mentally ill person who is lost in her pseudo-scientific mania and this until the last consequence publicly. Through the seemingly documentary representation of the hole researcher, the film tries to keep a balance between the comedy of what is claimed and the horror of the (seeming) exposure of a psychopathologically confused person.

criticism

  • " Holes are nothing, so this film is also about nothing, which is described and circumscribed with many Dadaesque words and so in the middle of the wacky joke, in between the undecided between" real "and" virtual ", between documentary and fake (thus aptly chosen the title) drafts a small philosophy of (non-) being. “A nonsense that could be true”, says Schulzeck. Or maybe even “true” is? "(from a review of the film by Jörg Meyer in www .infomedia-sh.de / current, October 2003)
  • "Anyone who doesn't know a mockumentary can hardly laugh at what's going on in front of the camera. Because the apparently insane woman thinks she has to explore holes. There is a shameful giggle whispering through the rows, mixed with embarrassment and many question marks That only changes with "Holes in the Head" (the new edition 2014), because now the viewer, who has meanwhile been enlightened by Schulzeck, can laugh heartily when established philosophy doctors have a serious, scientific conversation with the young hole researcher Nowhere is this wonderful self-irony, for which Helmut Schulzeck is known, better shown. " (from a review by filmszene-sh.de)

Quotes

  • "We humans may be at a phased point ... yes, where holes are made. And it's pointless to get upset about it. Much more, it makes sense to deal with it. For me, the worst thing when a hole is not developed further. "
