X takes! is a card game by the German game designers Wolfgang Kramer and Reinhard Staupe , which was published by Amigo in 2016 . It is a successor to the card game 6, which was released in 1994 and has won several game awards ! with modified rules. As with this one, the aim is to play all your own cards from the hand of cards in rows of numbers as quickly as possible and to get as few negative points as possible.

Gameplay

The gameplay of X takes! essentially corresponds to that of 6 takes! , Bulls! and 11 takes! , but differs from these in some rule modifications. As with these, the aim is to play all of your own cards from the hand of cards in rows of numbers as quickly as possible and to get as few negative points as possible in the form of "bulls" on the cards that are returned. At X takes! There is an additional rule that not every card received back gives negative points and cards received back via the X row do not count towards the negative score.

The game material consists of 100 number cards (horned ox) and 7 row cards, whereby four row cards are marked with an X and the other three with the numbers 3, 4 and 5. Each of the number cards has a different number at the top and bottom between the numbers " Horny ox ”(1 to 7), which indicates how many minus points this card brings in the scoring.

Game flow

Actions per turn
  • all players place a card face down
  • the cards are turned over together
  • the cards are placed in ascending order on the display
  • complete rows are cleared
  • the players put one of the cleared cards in the X display and the rest in hand

At the beginning of the game, the row cards labeled 3, 4 and 5 are placed in the middle of the table and each player receives an X row card, which he puts down in front of him. Next to the row cards in the middle of the table, a number card is placed face up from the shuffled number card pile, after which each player receives eight number cards, which he takes in hand. The remaining cards are not required in the current game.

As for 6 takes! play even at X takes! in each round all players simultaneously pick one card from their hand, which are then turned over together. The cards are then distributed in ascending order of numbers on the rows laid out so that they always form ascending series of numbers. The card that is created is always added to the row with the lowest difference to the new card. If a row is completed in this way by containing the number of cards indicated on the row card after the card has been placed, the player whose card has filled the row must take the cards already on the table and leave only his own face up. If a player cannot place his card because it is lower than all of the end cards in the row, he must take all cards in a row of his choice. Whenever a player has to take cards from the middle, he puts any of these cards in his own X display, and he takes all other cards in hand. Also within the X row, all cards must be in ascending order and if a player cannot place any of the cards he has taken in ascending order, this row is also cleared except for the new card. This time, however, a face-down X pile is placed next to the X row, on which all the cards from the X row that have to be cleared will later be placed.

End of game and scoring

The game ends after the round after which a player has no more cards in hand. To determine the winner, the "bulls" of the hand cards are added with twice the number of "bulls" of the X pile, the X row does not give you any minus points. As a rule, another round is played and the results are added up, the winner is the player with the fewest negative points.

expenditure

X takes! was taken by Wolfgang Kramer and Reinhard Staupe on the basis of the card game 6! developed and published by Amigo in 2016 for the international game days in Essen.
