The compound can be produced by hydrolysis of xenon hexafluoride .

The xenonoxytetrafluoride molecule has a tetragonal-pyramidal structure. The distance between the xenon atom and the fluorine atoms is 1.902 ± 0.002 Å, while that of the oxygen atom is 1.708 ± 0.007 Å.
