The Samsung 9000 , also known as the Xin Los Angeles type , is a type of container ship from the South Korean shipbuilding group Samsung Shipbuilding & Heavy Industries . The first ships of the type were the largest container ships in the world when they were commissioned.
history
The series of post-Panamax container ships of the Samsung 9000 type with 9580 TEU , which began with the type ship Xin Los Angeles , was built in 2005 and 2006 by the South Korean shipyard Samsung Shipbuilding & Heavy Industries for the shipping companies China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) , Danaos Shipping, Seaspan, shipping company Claus-Peter Offen and MSC . The ships of CSCL and MSC are used in liner service on the Northern Europe - Far East route.
With parking spaces of over 9500 TEU and a carrying capacity of 111,746 dwt, the first of the ships delivered were among the largest container ships in the world until the Emma Maersk , the lead ship of the Emma Mærsk class, was presented in September 2006. The containers can be stowed below deck in ten layers and 16 rows side by side, on deck in up to eight layers in 18 rows side by side.
The deckhouse is located about four fifths of the length aft above the machinery.
The ships are powered by a license-built MAN B&W 12K98MCC two-stroke diesel engine with 68,382 kW that acts directly on the shaft. This will give you a service speed of 25 knots. The crew consists of 19 men.
