Xystus is a Dutch progressive metal band from Den Bosch that was founded in 1999.

history

The band was founded in 1999 by drummer and keyboardist Ivo van Dijk and singer and guitarist Bas Dolmans. The band's first album was released under the name Receiving Tomorrow in 2004. The release was followed by appearances in the Netherlands with Epica , Kamelot and Autumn . This was followed by an international tour through Europe with Epica . In 2007 the second album called Surreal followed . During the release, the band was already working on the next album, Equilibrio , which, according to the band, was a "rock opera". It was played live in Utrecht in front of over 4000 spectators. The band was supported by an orchestra and guest musicians such as Simone Simons (Epica), George Oosthoek (ex- Orphanage ), Michelle Splietelhof ( Der Schuh des Manitu ) and John Vooijs ( Tarzan ) could be heard. The gig was also released on DVD in January 2009. In 2009 Luuk van Gerven (ex- After Forever ) joined as the new bass player.

style

The band plays classic progressive metal, with symphonic elements being interspersed. The band is compared to other groups like Kamelot, Ayreon and Savatage .
