Yūki Furukawa ( Japanese 古 川 雄輝 , Furukawa Yūki ; born December 18, 1987 in Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese actor .

Life

Furukawa was born in Tokyo. In 1995 his family moved to Toronto . After graduating from middle school, he went to the United States to attend the Keio Academy in New York. There he started to learn breakdance . He returned to Tokyo at the age of 19 and began his bachelor's degree in systems design engineering at Keio University . As the leader of the student dance group "Revolve" he won the "Mr. Keio" competition of 2009. Therefore, he got the chance to take part in the "Horipro's 50th Anniversary Actor Audition" in 2010, where he was awarded the special jury award. After that, he decided to develop into a professional actor.

In addition to his mother tongue, Furukawa is fluent in English. He had his breakthrough as Domenico, a Japanese Catholic priest, in the bilingual play Anjin: The Shogun and the English Samurai , directed by Gregory Doran , which was performed first in Japan and then in London .

In 2013, Furukawa had a huge hit as Irie Naoki in the manga- based television series Itazura na Kiss ~ Love in TOKYO . This TV series was also sold to the USA, mainland China , Hong Kong , etc. As a result, he gained international fame, especially in mainland China.
