The Japanese YKK Group ( Japanese YKK 株式会社 wai kei kei kabushiki-gaisha , English YKK Corporation ) is the world's largest producer of zippers and also a manufacturer of various industrial joining technologies. YKK was founded in 1934 by Tadao Yoshida as a sole proprietorship and began manufacturing zippers in 1936; In 1946, YKK was registered as a trademark . "YKK" is derived from Y oshida K ōgyō K abushikigaisha ( 吉田 工業 株式会社 ), the company before 1994.

The closure technology division of the German Stocko was taken over in 1994 and has since been continued under the name "YKK STOCKO Fasteners GmbH". The German production of the zippers takes place in the Hessian town Weimar - Wenkbach and in Wuppertal , the head office of YKK Germany is in Mainhausen , the marketing department is based in Düsseldorf . In Austria , YKK Austria has been located in Marz in Burgenland since 1975 and has around 35 employees.

In 2007 YKK was fined 150.2 million euros by the EU Commission for illegal price fixing with other manufacturers.
