The Yahtse Glacier is a 64 km long glacier in the US state of Alaska . It is located in Wrangell-St.-Elias National Park about 120 km northwest of the settlement of Yakutat .
geography
The Yahtse Glacier has its accumulation zone on the southeast flank of the Barkley Ridge located MountMiller in the far east of the Chugach Mountains . From there the glacier, which is 4 km wide on average, flows in an east-southeast direction along the southern flank of the Elias chain . It flows around the Guyot Hills to the north and east and finally flows into Icy Bay , a bay on the Pacific coast. The Yahtse Glacier borders the Guyot Glacier in the south .
Glacier development
The Yahtse Glacier used to flow into the Guyot Glacier. Because of its glacier retreat in the 20th century, its glacier tongues are now separated from the Guyot Hills . In the early 2000s, the Yahtse Glacier was in a possibly short advance period.
