Yair Minsky

Yair Nathan Minsky (born November 9, 1962 in Jerusalem ) is an American mathematician who studies low-dimensional topology and Klein groups.

Minsky received his doctorate in Princeton in 1989 with William Thurston ( Harmonic maps and hyperbolic geometry ). He was a professor at the State University of New York at Stony Brook (SUNY) and is a professor at Yale University . From 1995 to 1999 he was a Sloan Research Fellow .

Minsky deals with the topology of three-dimensional manifolds, hyperbolic geometry, Teichmüller theory , holomorphic dynamics and combinatorial group theory.

With Jeffrey Brock and Richard Canary he gave proof of the Ending Lamination Conjecture by Thurston (independently also from Mary Rees ) in 2004 .
