Yang Xinhai

Yang Xinhai (born July 17, 1968 , † February 14, 2004 ) was a Chinese serial killer who killed 67 people and raped 23 women in four Chinese provinces .

After serving in prison for rape from 1996 to 2000, he began one of the worst series of murders in Chinese history. At night he assaulted families in their sleep and killed them with axes , hatchets , hammers or shovels . He then raped at least 23 female victims. He was recognized and arrested on November 23, 2003 in Cangzhou , north China's Hebei Province . After 67 murders, 23 rapes as well as several break-ins and robbery could be proven, he confessed to the alleged acts. As a motive he stated that his girlfriend left him and that he wanted to take revenge on society.

He was sentenced to death in Luohe , central China's Henan Province , on Sunday, February 1, 2004 , and shot dead 13 days later .
