Yannick Singéry

Yannick Singéry (* 1929 ; † 1995 ) was a French jazz pianist who played in Claude Luter's orchestra for 35 years .

Life

Singéry worked in the French traditional jazz scene from the late 1940s, a. a. with Sidney Bechet , with whom he toured the United States in 1950. In the early 1950s he played in André Réwéliotty's Mimosa New Orleans Band , in which he toured with Hot Lips Page , continued with Bechet and Claude Luter and in 1953 with Albert Nicholas . In the following decades he took a. a. with Dany Doriz and Michel Attenoux . Until his death he was then employed in Luter's orchestra from 1960, for which he also wrote some compositions (partly with Luter), such as "Black Satin". In 1975 Singéry recorded a solo album ( Ragtime Piano Classics with ragtime numbers like the " Maple Leaf Rag ". In the Bix-Beiderbecke biopic To Bix or Not to Bix (directed by Jean-Christophe Averty ) Singéry played the part of Hoagy Carmichael . The discographer Tom Lord lists Noel in 75 recording sessions between 1950 and 1994, most recently in Lausanne with the Jacky Milliet "French" band.
