Yaqui Nuñez del Risco

Yaqui Núñez del Risco (born May 4, 1939 in Santiago de los Caballeros , † September 8, 2014 in Santo Domingo ) was a Dominican journalist, television presenter and producer.

Life

Núñez grew up in San Francisco de Macorís and studied law at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo . He then attended courses in public relations and journalism at the Instituto de Formación Demócrata Cristiana (lFEDEC) in Caracas and at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Germany. On his return to Santiago, he became professor of public relations at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra .

Career

At the age of fifteen he worked in San Francisco de Macorís as a sports journalist for the newspaper La Nación and as editor for the entertainment section of the newspaper El Sol , and as a spokesman for the city's radio station. After his studies he started the television program Letra y Música with the musician Rafael Solano at Radio Televisión Dominicana and later the program Nosotros a las ocho ("We at eight") with Freddy Beras-Goico , with whom he also did the El Show del Mediodía ( "Show at noon") took over.

As a columnist he wrote for newspapers such as Hoy , El Nacional and Listín Diario . He worked as a creative consultant for the poverty reduction program of the Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo . As a lyricist and composer, he became known for songs like Compañera .

Núñez taught as a professor at the Universidad O&M and the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra .

In December 2008, a stroke that deprived him of the ability to speak ended his professional career.

Honors

In 2010 he was honored by the Unión Nacional de Artistas y Afines de República Dominicana and in the following year by the Dominican government with the award Gloria Nacional de la Comunicación . The Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo appointed him honorary professor in 2011.
