Yasser al-Habib lives in London and is the leader of the Khoddam al-Mahdi organization (Arabicهيئة خدام المهدي / haiʾat ḫaddām al-mahdī ). He completed his education with a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Kuwait. The 2004 International Religious Freedom Report reported that Yasser vilified the Sunni faith in a December 2003 audio recording. Yasser al-Habib expressed in words and writings a negative attitude towards the Shiites Abu Bakr and Umar and said that the balance of power between Shiites and Sunnis would turn around.

In September 2010, he angered Sunnis by calling Aisha , the wife of the Prophet Mohammed , an "enemy of God": "Aisha is now in Hell, hanging by her legs and eating her own meat." This led to the loss of his Kuwaiti citizenship .

In October 2010, the Iranian Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei , sought to calm tensions between Shiites and Sunnis by issuing a fatwa against insults against the Prophet's companions and wives.
