Yasuní - two seconds of life is a documentary film about a proposal by the Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa , who went around the world under the catchphrase “Leave the oil in the ground”: In its Yasuní-ITT initiative , Ecuador offers the national park Yasuní not to exploit the oil reserves and to leave the local rainforest with its great biodiversity untouched. In addition, the protection of the indigenous peoples resident there is to be ensured. In return, the international community is to pay half of the income that Ecuador would have realized from the oil reserves over a period of 10 years . This money is to be administered in a UN fund and invested in sustainable solutions to the energy issue.

content

The film Yasuní - two seconds of life offers a comprehensive insight into the country of Ecuador, its biodiversity and especially into the life of the indigenous population. The two tribes Huaorani and Tagaeri live in the Yasuní National Park relatively isolated from civilization. In the course of the film, however, it becomes clear what repression and health risks they were exposed to through the exploitation of the country by large oil companies. The oil company Chevron Texaco is still being sued due to the long-term health damage. But not only the indigenous people affected have their say, politicians, scientists and representatives of the oil companies are also asked to appear in front of the camera.
