Yaya Ouattara
Yaya Ouattara (* 1971 ) is a singer and percussionist of world music from Burkina Faso .
As a teenager he was interested in the traditional music of his homeland and began an international musical career in 1990 at the age of nineteen as a member of the Farafina group . On their album Faso Denou , which was created in Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios , he worked as a singer and djembé player.
In 1995 he appeared at the Montreux Jazz Festival with Malcolm Braff's quintet , which also included trumpeter Paolo Fresu and violinist Djamel Ben Yelles . He continued the collaboration with Braff and also belonged to his other bands ( Combo , Malcolm Braff Trio , Tectonic Natural Tribe ). He also worked with jazz musicians such as Erik Truffaz , Minino Garay , Julien Loureau and the Art Ensemble Of Chicago as well as Karim Ziad and Mahmoud Guinea .
In 2002 Ouattara founded the group Yaya Ouattara Duba Dew , with which he increasingly absorbed the influences of West African folk music.
