The Yelcho Hill is a hill on Deception Iceland in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It towers on the shores of Telefon Bay on the north side of the entrance to Stancomb Cove .
As a result of a volcanic eruption in 1967, Telefon Bay with an island in it was created as a side bay of Port Foster . This was in Argentina as Islote Marinero Suárez , in Chile as Isla Yelcho and in the United Kingdom as Yelcho Iceland known. As a result of another outbreak in 1970, a land connection was established. Polish scientists took this change into account by renaming in 1999. The hill is named after the Chilean steam tug Yelcho , with whose help the one on Elephant Island in August 1916missing crew part of the endurance expedition (1914-1917) of the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton was rescued.
