Yifeng Liu

Yifeng Liu (born July 19, 1985 in Shanghai ) is a Chinese mathematician and professor at Yale University .

Liu studied from 2003 at the University of Beijing with a bachelor's degree and from 2007 at Columbia University , where he received his doctorate in 2012 with Shou-Wu Zhang (Arithmetic inner product formula for unitary groups). As a post-doctoral student , he was a Moore Instructor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology until 2015 . In 2015 he became Assistant Professor at Northwestern University , 2018 Associate Professor and 2019 Professor at Yale University.

He deals with number theory, arithmetic algebraic geometry and automorphic forms. In the appreciation for the SASTRA Ramanujan Prize, the work on arithmetic theta-lifting and derivations of L-functions that resulted from his dissertation was first highlighted. In three papers from 2016 on Bessel and Fourier-Jacobi models, he made significant progress on the Gan-Gross-Prasad conjectures in the representation theory of classical groups. In a paper published in 2018, he proved p-adic versions of Waldspurger and Gross / Zagier theorems . He also extended results from kolyvagin to higher rank within the framework of the Beilinson-Bloch-Kato conjectures ( Alexander Beilinson , Spencer Bloch , Kazuya Kato ). In 2011 he proved an analogue of the Calabi conjecture proved by Yau in non-Archimedean geometry (completely degenerate Abelian varieties over p-adic numbers).

From 2017 to 2019 he was a Sloan Research Fellow. In 2018 he received the SASTRA Ramanujan Prize .
