Yli-Kitka is a lake in Finland , in the municipalities of Kuusamo ( Northern Ostrobothnia ) and Posio ( Lapland ). The lake is connected to the northern Ala-Kitka lake by the Kilkilösalmi Sound . Together, the two lakes form the Kitkajärvi lake system. With 237 km² the Yli-Kitka is the largest unregulated lake in Finland. It is at a height of 240.4 m.
The Riisitunturi National Park is north of the lake. The lake system is drained on the east bank of the Ala-Kitka over the Kitkajoki to Oulankajoki and is part of the catchment area of the Russian river Kowda , which flows into the White Sea .
