Emanuele Andrea Bonaventura Ignazio Pes di Villa Marina (* 15. November 1777 in Cagliari , † 14. May 1852 in Turin ) was a General , Minister and Senator of the Kingdom of Sardinia-Piedmont .

Life

Emanuele Pes di Villamarina came from a Sardinian aristocratic family that over time produced several generals, senators and ministers. Giacomo Pes di Villamarina , General and Viceroy of Sardinia , was his uncle. Emanuele spent the first years of his life with his brothers Francesco and Bartolomeo on the family property Isola Piana in front of Portoscuso , then he became the page of King Victor Amadeus III in Turin . In his army , Emanuele Pes di Villamarina fought against French revolutionary troops from 1794 to 1796. Promoted to lieutenant in 1795 , he joined the Napoleonic army as a captain in 1808 . In the course of the restoration , Viktor Emanuel I took him over in 1814 as major and field adjutant , in 1815 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel , in 1817 to colonel , in 1820 to major general and inspector of the infantry , and in 1831 finally to lieutenant general . In 1831 Pes di Villamarina was accepted into the reformed State Council . From 1832 to 1847 he held the post of First State Secretary of the State Secretariat for War (Minister of War), which he had already briefly led in 1821. As Minister of War he carried out the major army reform initiated by King Karl Albert ( Albertinische Army Reform ) and also set up the Bersaglieri troops proposed by Alessandro La Marmora . In 1833 he also took over the State Secretariat for the Affairs of Sardinia. Emanuele Pes di Villamarina was a member of the Turin Senate from 1848 to 1851. Among other things, he was awarded the Order of Announcements.

His son Salvatore Pes di Villamarina , born in 1808, became an officer, ambassador , prefect and senator.
