Giacomo Pes di Villamarina

Giacomo Francesco Pes di Villamarina (born May 22, 1750 in Tempio Pausania , † September 25, 1827 in Cagliari ) was a general and viceroy of the Kingdom of Sardinia-Piedmont .

Life

Giacomo Pes di Villamarina came from a Sardinian aristocratic family that over the years produced several generals, senators and ministers. His nephew was the general, minister and senator Emanuele Pes di Villamarina . Giacomo Pes began his officer career in the Sardegna Infantry Regiment . On April 17, 1792 he distinguished himself in the battle at the Colle del Perus near Nice . In 1796 he became colonel and commander of the Sardegna regiment , 1799 brigadier , 1801 military commander of the city of Cagliari, 1803 governor of Sassari , 1806 major general and governor of Cagliari, 1807 captain general of the Kingdom of Sardinia , chamberlain of the royal house and head of the king's bodyguard company , in 1810 Police minister.

After the Napoleonic occupation of the mainland possessions ended and the king returned to Turin , Giacomo Pes di Villamarina remained in Sardinia from 1814 to 1816 and then as viceroy until 1818. As such, he set up a first public park in Cagliari. Pes di Villamarina was promoted to Grand Master of Artillery in 1816 and Army General in 1818 . In 1815 he was awarded the Order of Annunciations , in 1827 the Grand Cross of the Knightly Order of St. Mauritius and Lazarus .
