Yo Mama is a record label that was founded in 1994 by André Luth in Hamburg . For many years the label was called Yo Mama Records , since the partial takeover by Four Music it is officially called Yo Mama's Recording Company .
history
Influential artists such as Der Tobi & Das Bo or Fettes Brot have been at home on the label since it was founded . Bands like Dum Bum , disJam or Vers Chaoten also shaped the early years, as did cross-genre samplers with names like Disco 3000 . In the late 1990s , Yo Mama Records, together with Eimsbush, represented an important center of German hip-hop development. Successful albums such as dangerous half-knowledge by Eins Zwo , Sillium by Fünf Sterne deluxe , Music Is Okay by DJ Koze or Asimetrie by Ferris MC were published during this time.
The brief stagnation of the hip-hop boom in Germany from 2001 hit Yo Mama Records hard; as a result, shares in Four Music were sold. In 2011, Nneka's Soul is Heavy was the last release on Yo Mama for the time being.
